I'm planning to start weightlifting. I'm using a very light weight (I only have access to two 5-pound dumbbells), but I have 40 different exercizes planned that will incorporate my whole body. I plan on doing 2 sets of 10 reps for each exercize (for a total of 800 reps), every other day. Is this overdoing it?

How many reps/sets for weight lifting?

Hi Legit, it totally depends on what your goal is. If you're looking for adding mass then low reps with a heavier weight is the key. If you're looking to cut then use a lighter weight and go for about 16-20 reps (or failure). If you're small and need a lot of muscle mass then I wouldn't even worry too much about biceps - you need power moves like bench press, dead lifts, squats etc. Good luck.

Why does my shoulder make a cracking noise?

Ok so this happened a few days ago when I was doing this total upper body workout. I think it's because of the dumbbell side laterals that caused the top of my shoulder to make a cracking noise every time I rotate it, and I did a lot of reps plus I wasn't doing them right. Anyways, I was browsing through the net and this seems like a common injury. However, it seems like it's not going to heal on its own. When I rotate my shoulders it makes the cracking noise (can't describe it) it doesn't hurt though. My shoulders/arms were a little bit sore after the workout, but the soreness is subsiding and it's getting better, however, the cracking noise is not going away. I do plan on visiting a doctor, but can someone tell me if this is going to heal in a couple of days because I want to start playing basketball and other sports again, and I'm really worried. Should I still do some workouts?

15 years old... did p90x and some insanity... have not worked out in probably 3 weeks due to an injury to my testicles from working out and being in the hospital a few times. Astrophotography Question?

I have Meade telescope with a GoTo mount. I found the dumbbell nebula and I wanted to take a picture of it. Concerns about mortgage pre approval from bank of america?

I received pre-approval from Bank of America for an FHA and VA Vendee loan. This was in early April and they pulled my credit before granting the pre-approval. I finally found a house and made an offer that was accepted. The proposed closing date was scheduled for July 29, but because of the length of time between then and when I received the initial pre-approval, I was advised to allow them to pull another credit report (this was last week). I did this and my score is now 656 (up from 628), my debt-to-income ratio has slightly lowered (due to paying off one credit card and paying down another) and everything else is the same. I had a bankruptcy which was discharged four years ago, and since that time I struggled for a few months (late 2008/early 2009) and had an erroneous state tax lien on my report. They asked from an explanation for these events and stated that I could provide a letter explaining the situations. These same items were on both credit reports pulled by BoA, but now I am being told that they are denying approval because of these items. Why would the grant a pre-approval for 170k, but deny my approval for 97k? I am a college educator and I have been on the job for almost three years. I was told that they would need certain items to process the loan, however they requested none of these items before denying me. I received pre-approval from Wells Fargo (also done in early April) which is still valid. I spoke with that loan officer today and he doesn't see the problem. I would prefer the Vendee program because of the lower fees/closing costs in addition to the zero money down payment, however I may have to go to the FHA from Wells Fargo. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do or why this could have happened? Has this happened to others? Any information that anyone can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have my biceps hit a plateau?

I've been working out my biceps with 15lb dumbbells for about 2 months, standing bicep curls. I can't seem to switch to 20lb dumbbells, they seem way too heavy. I lift about 12 reps every set, i haven't really increased in the 2 months. Should i switch to 10lb dumbbells with more reps to confuse my biceps? Am I losing fat or muscle?

During school I lifted about 5 months for 4 days a week and now that school is out im not lifting as much anymore. I do push ups and other dumbbell workouts maybe 2-3 times a week now. I have also done some running maybe 2 times a week. Since school has been out for about a month now, I havent been eating those crappy fat filled school lunches anymore. The Medicaid agency said the check from them went "directly to the clinic." They have received Medicaid funds for 6 years starting withh 2005. you really dont need to overload on protein. 118 grams is a ridiculous amount. protein doesnt actually help you lose weight, it helps you gain it. your body uses protein to build muscle so youll actually be gaining more muscle mass, and therefore more weight, by taking protein. you can get leaner by not using protein, I think.

I am thinking of suing my ex-landlord for not giving me a an itemized deduction list within the 14-day time limit according to Washington State guidelines. I received a partial payment with no explanation. I went through the Better Business Bureau to get a response from the Apt. complex and they told BBB that they gave me an itemized list. They faxed over a copy of my 1-year contract along with a letter to the BBB in which they explained the deductions in the letter (they didn't fax over the itemized list, just an explanation in the letter), along with telling the BBB that they were nice enough to not charge me for the 2 days I was there (I moved out on the 2nd of the month). I gave the apt. complex the 20-day notice to move out notifying them that I was moving on the 3rd. What happened here lifting weights?

I was doing a dumbbell bench press, and I didn't feel like my chest was doing any work at all, while meanwhile, my forearms hurt like THEY were doing the work. And then later, when I was working out ,y triceps, my forearms hurt like they were doing the work again. Is this supposed to happen, or am I doing something wrong?

My forearm hurts while lifting?

I've been working out for two months now and recently while trying to lift heavier weights my forearms hurt. It's not just during curling movements, it happens even if I try to grip heavy weights for dumbbell chest presses and even during shrugs to the point I just can't hold the dumbbell. I don't think it's an injury. My forearms actually become pumped and stiff during these periods and it stops hurting after a few minutes of letting go of the weight. This sucks because I know I have to lift heavy to get bigger.

weight lifting doesn't equate to being a good fighter. i've seen little skinny dudes knock out big meat-heads many a time. you need to take classes and practice. most MMA schools offer stand up and grappling courses. you'll get crazy strong when you spend three hours a week grappling. nothing builds muscle like keeping another 200lb person from trying to strangle you or twist your ankle off. high protein. and give your muscles time to rest. plenty of sleep. and you have to work out with a partner. you can't get stronger with just your limitations. have to really burn with help from someone else.

401k allows you to make penalty free withdrawals for purchasing a principal residence and I figure since I started my 401k at 24 I started very early (I have plenty of time to catch up). One bicept/tricept bigger than the other?

My left arm is about 1 3/4" inches bigger than my right arm, this problem has me a little worried. I have been working out with machines at the gym for about 7 months now, i think this is the problem. I started working out with dumbbells about 2 months ago. What are good workouts for rugby?

I am thinking about trying to play rugby for my college club team in the Fall. They aren't very good and I am athletic enough to be alright, but I would like to know good weightlifting ideas. I think I would most likely play a wing position (I am 6'4'' 175ish with good speed). I lift 3 to 4 times a week and usually Bench (4 sets of 4-6 reps at 150lbs), dumbbell curls (3 sets of 8 reps at 35 lbs), usually 3 sets on the seated row machine, 3 sets on the shoulder press, a tricep exercise, a forearm exercise, calf raises (3 sets of about 15 at 115lbs), and legpress (3 sets of 10 reps at about 220lbs). I usually do all of these each time. I'm telling you the weights to give you an idea of my strength. If you have any suggestions that would be great. Thanks.

Car accident with no insurance?

I was stopped at a red light behind two cars. Both cars started to go and so did I the next thing I knew I had hit the car in front of me. The car in front of me hit the car in front of him. We all pulled over my car isn’t to bad but I drive a suburban, the car in front of me was a smaller car so his looked a little worse. Nobody was hurt, and all cars were drivable, so we decided to not call the police we just all exchanged information. After we had finished and they left I immediately called my insurance lady to let her know what happened. I am not super clear on this next part, we have been going back and forth with our insurance since that call and will continue to fight it. When I called the insurance lady she said I wasn’t covered. She said that they had received the last payment much later than it was due (not sure how because it was mailed the same time as always) but because of that our insurance had been cancelled. A couple of weeks ago they had chased our check, she said we were reinstated as of yesterday (the day of the accident) but because it was the same day they weren’t liable to pay the damages. We are going to keep fighting them because I don’t think its fair. Even if they decide that they won’t pay we can afford to just pay for the damages to the rear end of the car in front of us, because know matter what happened I am at fault for following to close. We can’t afford to pay out of our pocket also for his front end and the rear end of the first car. Shouldn’t those damages be covered by the car I hit because he was obviously following to close to the car in front of him? I posted an ad on craigslist about needing a job. This guy named anthony cavallo messaged me about doing some advertising postings for him. I started talking to him over e-mail and messenger. pretty much he e-mails me the work to do for the day then i do it. He said the payment is weekley so i would get paid once a week and its $300. I asked him if i could get paid early this week by friday at least half the money and he agreed. How can i make sure the check is not fake or that he is not scamming me. WHY DOES 3 REPS MAKE ME STRONGER?

this is a serious question ive been lifting weights for awhile now and i used to do like 9 sets for a specific bodypart like for example my chest workout was bechpress 5 sets of 6-7 reps and finish off with dumbbell flyes 3 sets of 8-9 reps and i would do that once a week and i used to get progressively stronger little by little but as of recently when i started lifting again like that i noticed my max bench went down dramatically after one workout so i tried just maxing out 1 time each week i did exactly this... 1 warmup rep of 160lbs, then 2 minutes later another warmup rep of 210lbs, then 2 minutes later i would put as much weight on the bar as i thought i could lift and THAT WAS IT! just 3 sets of 1 rep and the very next week i gained 5lbs on my benchpress each week after for month straight is this normal? should i be getting this much stronger this quick with such a small workout?? i also noticed this same thing with my deadlifts and curls too i do 3sets of 1 with the last set being my max out and i also addel 60lbs on my deadlift in 1 month!!?

I attended a school program and half way through, I'm in the process of withdrawing, The school I'm attending is a popular tech school and will not return my money. My program was $25,000 and my in school payments were $400 since December of 2010 till May of 2011. I was very dissatisfied with the program, my instructors were so disorganized, we never knew what was planned for the day, my grades were horrible because of everything, everyday one of my instructors spent more time telling us her life stories then teaching, she walked in late on a regular, we once sat for an hour before another instructor showed up, also I recently took my final and it was such a great score they flat out to my face accused me of cheating, even though I had someone monitoring me in the room, they said, the score I got didn't reflect my recent grades. How can I gain weight?

I'm 6'2" and 17, I weigh 8.5 stone (119 pounds) and feel quite skinny. Your routine is good in that you are giving your body time to rest, but you are still doing way too many sets for each body part. Quit doing split routines and focus on compound movements. You are not doing any deadlifts which is the best overall lift that you can do. At your age and weight, you should focus on core compound movements like deadlifts, squats, flat bench, etc. Forget the isolation movements. More is not always better especially when it comes to sets.

Should I still workout?

15 years old... did p90x and some insanity... have not worked out in probably 3 weeks due to an injury to my testicles from working out and being in the hospital a few times. I have reason to believe that my ex is withholding his commissioned wages. I believe he only reported his hourly wages. I need some advice on working out.?

Basically, I'm fairly skinny but not so much that you can spot any bones 'sticking out'. Recently I've begun to put on weight in order to build muscle, but currently I only have two 5kg dumbbells and I really have no idea what to do in terms of exercise and diet. I have no money for the gym or other equipment so how often should I work out and what should I do to notice a difference in my body.

Can't feel pecs very much?

Yeah you don't really feel it as much on flat bench but it does work. It stretches yr chest out more than making yr chest grow outwards which gives you a wider chest with pecs like slabs of concrete rather than logos ones that stick out far from just using dumbells. If yr chest is feeling really weak at the end of a workout and you can't tense it properly then You know you've done a good session. Try doing flat dumbell bench aswell and all the other ones cos you seem to feel it more on them.

Question about creating my own lease/contract/addendum(?) for a potential roommate?

Long story short, i got screwed over by my last roommate. I am moving into new building and need a new roommate, but i want to legally protect myself with some sort of document.
